About Summer Shack

In April 2000 when Jasper White opened his first Summer Shack on the outskirts of Cambridge in a spot once occupied by an infamous Polynesian restaurant, Aku Aku, many of the customers from his former Jasper’s Restaurant were shocked. White tablecloths, soft music, softer lighting, elegant dinnerware: gone! Turn up the music. Haul out the picnic tables. Bring on the fun. Smash the crabs right on the table. The only thing that remained the same from Jasper’s fine dining restaurant was the quality of the food.

Four years later, three Summer Shacks bring seafood lovers the casual atmosphere and the fresh seafood of a classic, rural New England Clam Shack to bustling and urbane locations where people can get a flavor of the best our local waters have to offer. All of our restaurants are handicapped accessible and all are open 7 days a week.

Big blackboards hanging on the walls tell you about the menu specials. Serving seafood isn’t like making bread. You can always buy flour, but fishermen have to catch the fish, and then the fish have to pass our rigorous inspections before we’ll buy them and serve them to you. So, the specials are just that: the freshest, best seafood available each day. While some fish are available only seasonally, we proudly serve the best New England steamers, fried clams and lobster every day of the year. Lobster lovers have quirky ideas about what makes for the ultimate lobster dinner, and we say, before you make up your mind on the lobster’s highest calling, order Jasper’s Pan Roasted Lobster. Just trust us on this one. Just do it.

The term “kid friendly” is thrown around a lot lately, but at Summer Shack, we really mean it. All children can have crayons when they are seated to do as they wish on our paper covered tables. They are welcome to visit our tanks and learn about Lobsters. Jasper consulted his three kids when he developed the menu, so it includes state-of-the-art corn dogs, hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, alphabet soup, snow cones and soft serve ice cream … of course lots of kids eat Lobster and many adults eat the kids food.

How often has somebody said to you, “Where can we go for dinner that’s fun?” Well, The Shack is the answer. SO come get messy with the best seafood in town at Summer Shack, where Food is Love.
